My 5 Favourite Street Photos Ever.

As I was having my coffee this morning I tried to think: “what’s my favourite street photo that I have ever taken?” I didn’t have to think hard as it was only very recently I had taken it and I knew the second i took it that I was going to love that photo.

So, I decided to take this mental exercise a little further and see if I can decide which my favourite 5 street photos are that I have taken over the past few years. I realised that narrowing it down was super difficult.

Whilst I had started out doing mainly landscape photos, I have been more and more drawn to street and town photography as well. I love the process of roaming the streets and alleys in search of interesting moments, subjects, contrasts, stories unfolding and lives being lived. I often search for contrasts in colours or in the old and the new or whimsical compositions where 2 unrelated things collide.

I often try to find a brief moment in a longer story where we get to guess what came before and comes after. Find out below which my favourite 5 street snaps are, in what order and which one made the No 1 spot.

No 5 - The Gentleman | Dublin, Ireland

I love how his coat, suit and hat colours match the decor of the restaurant. I still wonder when I look at this photo whether he did end up going for lunch there that day.

No 4 - Cruisin | Clonakilty, Ireland

I took this photo at the Clonakilty Old Time Fair in July 2023. I love how it only gives us a glimpse of who the driver and passenger are and how it is a window into another era. I only spotted the reflection of the person standing next to me in the car window when I processed the photo :)

No 3 - Alone | Malaga, Spain

I nearly walked past this alley, but when I saw the graffiti and the mural framing this construction site with the older houses in the background, I felt I had found something special.

No 2 - L’ Ape | Puglia, Italy

This photo takes me back to my childhood holidays in Puglia. I couldn’t believe these “Ape” 3-wheelers where still being used today. I went on this trip with just 1 film camera, 1 lens and 3 rolls of film. Best fun I ever had with a camera.
Camera & Lens: Canon AV-1, Canon FD 28mm f2.8 (35mm film camera)

No 1 - La Vespa | London, England

The most stylish people I have ever seen to grace the saddle of a Vespa stopped right in front of a street art installation that made for the perfect backdrop, just as i crossed the street. Shot in the Shoreditch area of London.
